Why is it called the source and summit? CCC 1324
Every sacrament and all the Church's work lead to the Eucharist and flow from it, because it contains Christ himself.
Is Jesus really present? CCC 1374
Yes. Body and blood, soul and divinity, he is truly, really and substantially present. This is more than a symbol.
What is transubstantiation? CCC 1376
The whole substance of the bread becomes the Body of Christ, and the whole substance of the wine becomes his Blood. The appearances remain.
Is it a sacrifice? CCC 1366–1367
Yes. It makes present the one sacrifice of the Cross. Christ is not sacrificed again.
Who may receive Communion? CCC 1385
A Catholic who is in a state of grace. Anyone aware of grave sin should go to Confession first.
Must I fast? CCC 1387
Yes, as your Church directs. In the Latin Church, the rule is one hour before Communion, with exceptions for the sick and elderly.
Must I go every Sunday? CCC 2181
Yes. Sundays and holy days of obligation bind the faithful, unless excused for a serious reason such as illness.
